How to Ask a Buyer for Missing Personalization Details
Using listing options to prevent this, and what to do if the buyer stays silent.
This is the most common cause of delay for personalized products: the order comes in, but a detail like the monogram letters, a color choice, or a size is missing. You can't start production, and every day that passes puts the delivery date at more risk.
What to keep in mind
The long-term fix comes first: Etsy now lets you add dropdown options to a listing — alongside standard choices like size and color, you can add three or four more custom selections. Once that's set up, the buyer picks every detail while ordering, and you never have to send this message at all.
When something is missing, tell the buyer you need these details to make the piece exactly right and that you want to get started as soon as possible. If they don't reply, click the buyer's name in Orders to find their email address and follow up there directly.

Hello [Name],
Thank you so much for your order! To get started on your piece right away, I just need a few more details: [list missing details, e.g. monogram letters, color choice, size].
I want to make sure everything is exactly the way you want it, so as soon as I have these, I'll begin working on it.
Best regards,
[Shop Name]
How Sellereply handles this
Sellereply checks the order against your shop knowledge file to work out exactly which personalization fields are missing, and writes that specific list into the draft — instead of a vague "something's missing," the buyer sees exactly what you need.
